FC Barcelona has had to rely heavily on its young players to succeed this season. In fact, in recent seasons, the club has been overly reliant on these players. However, this reliance on young players has also allowed FC Barcelona to experience some memorable moments.

Most of these moments have come higher up the pitch, with players like Lamine Yamal and Fermin Lopez continuing to light up the pitch every time they are in action. However, they are not the only ones who deserve praise for the great work they have done.

In fact, it may be true that Hansi Flick’s Barcelona would not be enjoying the perfect season they are currently enjoying without the heroics of a certain young player who helped the team win a crucial opening game and build momentum from that match.

As Mundo Deportivo points out, 17-year-old Pau Cubarsi is the player to highlight for his feat against Valencia at the Mestalla in Barça’s opening match in La Liga. A match that ended 2-1 in favour of Barça, and Cubarsi’s intervention ultimately made the difference.

Despite his age, the player showed a maturity and self-awareness that goes well beyond his years in this match. Around half-time, Cubarsi was calm and collected as Valencia player Hugo Duro practically had an open goal in front of him. However, with everyone beaten and all hope seemed lost for Barcelona, the young defender stepped up and cleared a crucial goal from the goal line.

This save allowed Barça to keep the score at 1-0 in favour of Valencia and prevent their opponents from doubling the lead. Fortunately, a few minutes later, the Blaugrana equalised thanks to a superb move by Alejandro Balde, Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski, who finished the move with the Polish scorer.

Since that 2-1 win, Barça have seemed invincible. They have already repeated the same score against Athletic Club and Rayo Vallecano, and most recently against Real Valladolid (7-0) at the Montjuic stadium. Four wins in four games belong to Barça, and Pau Cubarsi perhaps deserves great recognition for this run.
