Sheffield United have completed the signing of defender Charlotte Wardlaw on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official press release from the Blades club this afternoon.

The 21-year-old joined Chelsea’s academy system at the age of 15. Wardlaw made her senior debut for the Blues in a Women’s League Cup group stage match against Tottenham Hotspur in the 2019/20 season.

With Wardlaw not having had much first-team game time at Chelsea, the youngster has gained experience on loan in recent seasons. The defender has had spells on loan at Liverpool, Lewes and Glasgow City in the last three years.

Wardlaw won the Barclays Women’s Championship with Liverpool in 2021/22 and she will be hoping to use her league experience to her advantage with her new club Sheffield United.

After signing for Sheffield United, Wardlaw said: “I’m really excited and delighted to be here. I think it’s really good to be back in the Championship and I hope this club will push me and develop me as a player and as a person.”

Wardlaw is Sheffield United’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window and could make her Blades debut when they take on Charlton Athletic at Bramall Lane on Saturday night.
