Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Real Madrid and Manchester City would undoubtedly be in the race to sign Jamal Musiala, if the player does not extend his contract with Bayern Munich.
For the Etihad Stadium club and Pep Guardiola’s squad, the 2025 summer transfer window could mark a significant need for change within the attacking midfield region of the operation.
Kevin De Bruyne is currently in the final year of his current contract with Manchester City, and while not ruling out the possibility of a further extension, all parties are likely to assess his fitness and ability to compete at the highest level before making a decision on the matter.
Additionally, Bernardo Silva remains a doubtful case within the team despite his contract extension last summer, and he constantly raises the idea of a move to warmer climes in the near future.
So Manchester City’s transfer chiefs will no doubt be drawing up succession plans for a vital area of their playing style, and a new talent entering the team could emerge from the Bundesliga.
Speaking at length during an update on his official YouTube channel, transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Bayern Munich are determined to retain the services of Jamal Musiala, despite confirmed interest from Manchester City.
“Bayern Munich did not consider the possibility of Jamal Musiala leaving the club this summer,” Romano said, reflecting on the last summer transfer window.
“Because the reality was that this summer, even though before the Euro we had some stories, Jamal Musiala was never, ever going to leave Bayern for Manchester City or any other club, despite the rumours of Manchester City, Real Madrid, many other clubs,” he continued.
“This summer was never a topic of discussion. But it is also important to say that Bayern’s mission is absolutely underway; Bayern wants to extend Jamal Musiala’s contract, and that is a really important mission of this board, of this management.
“It is absolutely crucial for them to make this project a reality and to reach an agreement with Jamal Musiala. And as Max Eberl, the Bayern director, says, it is an important situation for Bayern because they want Musiala to be one of the faces of the future of the Bayern project.
“So he is more than a player, he has to be the brand of Bayern, as a German player, as a fantastic player, as a fantastic talent – for Bayern it is a really important mission. They have already presented a new contract proposal to Jamal Musiala.
“So there is already a discussion, a kind of negotiation. It’s not a quick negotiation, it’s not something they’re going to resolve tonight or tomorrow, but there is a discussion, there is an exchange.”
The Bundesliga giants are ready to show their faith in the player by investing big money in his talents, with Fabrizio Romano further explaining: “Bayern are ready to offer really big money to Jamal Musiala in terms of fixed salary, in terms of add-ons, in terms of special bonuses to achieve that and to keep him at the club.
“The current contract expires in the summer of 2026, so Bayern have to sort this situation out before the summer of 2025, so next summer. Otherwise it could be a bit dangerous to keep a player like Musiala with one year left on his contract.”
“Bayern are on the move, they are pushing, and it is a crucial mission for this management.”
On Manchester City, alongside other clubs potentially interested in the upcoming transfer windows, Fabrizio Romano continued to explain: “Guys, I can guarantee you that all the big clubs, including Real Madrid, including Man City, including other clubs in England, they all love Jamal Musiala.
“And if he can’t find an agreement with Bayern, they will be there, for sure. Many clubs, not only Real Madrid, not only Manchester City. But at the moment, Bayern are playing their cards, Bayern are in negotiations with Musiala, so let’s wait, let’s see what happens, let’s see how this conversation will go. But for sure Bayern are working to keep Jamal Musiala at the club.”
Manchester City fans will be well aware of the success the Bundesliga has brought to the club in terms of talent, having signed a number of the division’s top names over the years under their Abu Dhabi ownership.
Kevin De Bruyne will dominate that conversation after joining the club in the summer of 2015 from Wolfsburg, while City have also signed the likes of Leroy Sane, Stefan Ortega Moreno and Vincent Kompany from German football.
