Josh Kerr is aiming for an “unprecedented” hat-trick of Olympic 1,500m medals after making history with his silver at this year’s Paris Games.

The 26-year-old won bronze at the postponed Tokyo 2020 Games to become the first Scot to win at two different Olympics, which he described as “a great reward for sure”.

“It’s an impressive statistic for me,” he told Scottish Athletics.

“An additional medal in the men’s 1500m at the Olympic Games would, in my opinion, be unprecedented and would be the most medals ever won at this distance.

“So I’m trying to push Scotland into a really good position and hopefully we can come away with a gold medal next time in Los Angeles. [in 2028].

“I’m looking for the complete set.”

Kerr will attempt to defend his Fifth Avenue Mile title in New York on Sunday, with compatriot Neil Gourley also competing.

“I’m still fighting to become the best 1,500m runner in the world and not winning gold at the Olympics was tough in that regard,” he explained.

“But it was a great race, the fastest 1,500m ever and the fastest 1,500m ever run by a British athlete.

“So I have to take the positives. I have to keep moving forward and this is not the finish line. It’s another chapter in the story at this point.”
