Former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino is making a major career move by leaving club football to become a new manager of the United States national teamThe Argentine coach receives a substantial salary, financed by contributions from various donors.

Pochettino has extensive experience as a coach in Europe’s top leagues and has worked with elite talent. Following his departure from Chelsea earlier this summer, he found himself without a job.

Rather than waiting for a prestigious new club job, Pochettino is taking the plunge into international management for the first time. The new role marks his international debut, bringing a fresh challenge for the experienced coach.

As for Pochettino’s salary, a report reveals that the former PSG boss is accepting a pay cut. On Wednesday, ESPN reported, citing sources, that Chelsea would pay Pochettino and his assistants, Jesús Perez, Miguel d’Agostino and Toni Jimenez, receive most of their compensation in monthly payments, extending through June 2025.

The Argentine player is expected to take a significant pay cut, with his new annual salary estimated to be around $6 million, according to ESPN. The report also highlights that the USSF has appealed for donor support for Pochettino’s salary.

Hedge fund billionaire Kenneth C. Griffin, founder and CEO of Citadel, with Scott Goodwin, co-founder of Diameter Capital, and several business partners, participate. Ultimately, this arrangement provided a solution that worked well for the new manager, his team, Chelsea and US Soccer.
